Samsung Electronics is expecting a major turnaround in its second-quarter performance, with its operating profit projected to rise nearly 19 times compared with the same period last year, driven by strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
The South Korean technology giant’s latest earnings guidance shows that Samsung could record an estimated $58.8 billion in operating profit and $112.5 billion in revenue for the April-to-June 2026 quarter.
The projected profit represents a sharp increase from the $4.68 billion operating profit recorded during the second quarter of 2025. Revenue is also expected to grow by about 129%, compared with $74.57 billion reported in the same period last year.
Samsung’s expected quarterly profit is also higher than the company’s combined earnings over the past three years, which totalled about $54.6 billion.
The company’s semiconductor division, known as Device Solutions, is expected to be the main contributor to the strong results. The unit has benefited from rising global demand for advanced memory chips used in artificial intelligence systems, including DRAM, High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), and NAND chips.
The rapid expansion of AI technologies has pushed major technology companies to invest heavily in data centres and high-performance computing infrastructure, creating increased demand for memory solutions.
Samsung, one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, has positioned itself to benefit from this growing market as businesses compete to develop and deploy more powerful AI systems.
The company’s full second-quarter financial report is expected to be released on July 30, 2026, providing further details on sales performance, business segment results and future projections.
The expected earnings surge highlights the growing influence of artificial intelligence on the global technology industry and the critical role of semiconductor manufacturers in powering the next generation of digital services.
