Jamaican reggae singer Fantan Mojah has died at the age of 49 after experiencing health complications related to his heart.
The singer, whose real name is Owen Moncrieffe, passed away on Tuesday evening at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kingston, according to reports.
His booking agent, Vertex, said the entertainer’s health had worsened in the days leading up to his death.
“Since he came back from the United States, he was hearty, but over the past week he started to ‘tek down’ and he was admitted to the UHWI,” Vertex said.
“Last night, he was vomiting blood, and that was it. He passed away.”
Fantan Mojah, who was known for his Rastafarian-inspired reggae music, was preparing to perform at this year’s Reggae
Jam Festival in Germany before his death.
Reports indicate that visas for the engagement had recently been approved.
The singer had been staying with friends in Portmore in his final days and was said to have limited his physical activities due to his condition.
Fantan Mojah had faced health challenges in recent years. In July 2024, he was hospitalised in Martinique after experiencing breathing difficulties and chest tightness, with reports at the time stating that his heart function had significantly reduced.
He was reportedly the father of at least five children.
