The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect over alleged regulatory violations involving the use of unprescribed uniforms and the possession and use of firearms and ammunition by the company’s personnel.
The suspension was announced in a press release signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak on June 22, 2026.
According to the Ministry, the action follows reports that personnel of the private security company allegedly used unapproved uniforms and were found in possession of firearms and ammunition while providing private security services at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21.
The Ministry said preliminary investigations pointed to possible breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security organisations in Ghana.
It described the alleged use of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as the use of security accoutrements by private security personnel, as a serious violation with significant implications for public safety and security.
As part of the sanctions, Kantanka Security Services has been directed to immediately cease all operations pending the conclusion of investigations.
The Ministry further advised public and private institutions to refrain from conducting business with the company until investigations are completed and further directives are issued.
It also directed the company to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and provide all information necessary to facilitate a thorough investigation.
“The public is assured that the suspension is an administrative measure intended to safeguard public safety and security while investigations are ongoing,” the statement said.
“Appropriate action will be taken upon completion of the investigations and in accordance with the laws and regulations governing private security operations in Ghana.”
The Ministry urged members of the public to report any unlawful activities involving private security organisations and their personnel to the nearest police station.
It also reminded private security organisations to comply with a public notice issued by the Ghana Police Service on February 5, 2026, regarding uniform regulations.
Reaffirming its commitment to enforcing regulatory standards, the Ministry said it would not hesitate to take action against any private security organisation found to be in breach of the law.
The suspension comes amid investigations into a shooting incident at Kwabenya linked to tensions within the Kristo Asafo Mission, in which former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo was allegedly shot at while attempting to serve court documents on her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena.
