About ten occupants of a compound house escaped unhurt after a fire swept through six self-contained apartments at Aboabo in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Fire officers deployed two tenders to the scene, but the blaze was already well alight by the time they arrived, as occupants had managed to escape.
According to the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Peter Tetteh, the fire started in one of the rooms before spreading to the other residential apartments.
The incident has displaced about 15 people, while fire officers have commenced investigations to determine the exact cause of the outbreak.
The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander lamented the reluctance of many residents to install fire extinguishers in their homes, stressing that such equipment could help contain fires before firefighters arrive at the scene.
