Six male students of Leklebi Senior High School in the Volta Region sustained minor injuries after attempting to extinguish a fire that engulfed the House Master’s apartment, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
In addition, the male and female occupants of the apartment reportedly collapsed after learning of the incident.
In a Facebook post, the GNFS said the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, prompting a rapid response from firefighters from the Hohoe Fire Station after a distress call was received at 4:21 p.m.
A firefighting crew led by the Hohoe Municipal Fire Commander, DO III Bismark Hosu-Porbley, arrived at the scene to find the House Master’s top-floor apartment completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters immediately launched suppression operations and brought the fire under control, successfully confining it to the affected apartment and averting further damage to nearby structures.
The GNFS successfully contained the fire outbreak, preventing the blaze from spreading to other parts of the school.
All eight affected individuals received prompt medical attention, were treated, and later discharged. No deaths were recorded.
The Ghana National Fire Service commended the professionalism and swift response of its personnel in containing the blaze and reiterated the need for schools and other institutions to prioritise fire safety measures to safeguard lives and property.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to continue.
