After nearly three years away from the national team, Baba Abdul Rahman has made a remarkable return to the Ghana squad, marking an emotional comeback for one of the country’s most experienced defenders.

The Greece-based left back earns his first call-up since September 2023 after delivering consistent and impressive performances for PAOK FC in the ongoing season.

The former Chelsea FC defender has been one of PAOK’s standout players this campaign, making 35 appearances across competitions while contributing three goals and several assists from the left side of defence. His performances have once again reminded many Ghanaian fans of the quality, experience, and leadership he brings to the Black Stars setup.

Baba Rahman’s return is particularly significant considering the difficult circumstances surrounding his departure from the national team in 2023. The defender had publicly announced that he would no longer play for Ghana after being booed by sections of supporters at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The criticism deeply affected the player, who felt unfairly targeted despite his years of dedication and sacrifice for the national team.

However, time appears to have healed those wounds. In recent months, Baba revealed that he now feels mentally and emotionally ready to wear the Ghana jersey once again. His decision to return demonstrates both maturity and commitment to serving his country despite past disappointments.

Since making his debut for Ghana in 2014, Baba Rahman has earned 50 caps, scored one goal, and provided eight assists. Over the years, he has represented the Black Stars at several major international tournaments, including multiple editions of the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which remains his last major tournament appearance for Ghana.

His comeback comes at an important time for the Black Stars as the team continues rebuilding under a new generation of players. With his experience at both club and international level, Baba Rahman is expected to provide balance, leadership, and stability in defence.

For many Ghanaian football fans, his return is more than just another call-up — it is a story of resilience, forgiveness, and unfinished business with the national team.
