The delivery of locally produced Jubilee crude oil to the Sentuo Oil Refinery has been hailed as a major milestone in Ghana’s petroleum industry, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting local value addition, strengthening energy security, and maximizing economic benefits from the country’s natural resources.
The development aligns with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to deepen local participation in the petroleum sector and drive industrial growth through enhanced domestic processing of Ghana’s hydrocarbon resources.
Industry observers note that the milestone builds on earlier efforts to integrate upstream oil production with local refining capacity. In 2016, crude oil from Ghana’s TEN Fields was successfully supplied to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), marking a significant step in the country’s pursuit of a more self-reliant petroleum industry.
The latest delivery to Sentuo Oil Refinery demonstrates continued progress toward achieving that objective. Sentuo has emerged as a key player in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, contributing to the expansion of local refining capacity and supporting the country’s broader industrialization agenda.
Meanwhile, the Tema Oil Refinery is also actively refining crude oil following the receipt of one million barrels of crude, a development expected to further enhance Ghana’s refining capabilities and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.

The successful collaboration among government agencies, industry stakeholders, and petroleum sector partners highlights a shared commitment to advancing Ghana’s energy sector transformation.
Analysts believe the increased utilization of locally produced crude by domestic refineries will not only boost economic activity but also create jobs, improve energy resilience, and contribute to sustainable industrial development.
The latest achievement reinforces Ghana’s determination to leverage its petroleum resources to drive economic growth while strengthening the capacity of local industries to compete within the regional and global energy markets.
