The Government of Ghana has assured South Africans living and doing business in the country that they will continue to enjoy peace and protection despite recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa that forced hundreds of Ghanaians to return home.

Speaking in an interview, Kofi Okyere Darko, the Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs, stressed that Ghana will not retaliate against South African nationals or businesses operating within the country.

According to him, South Africans in Ghana have no reason to panic as long as they respect the laws of the nation.

“Nothing is going to happen to South Africans living in Ghana. Their businesses will continue to operate normally. We are not going to take any action against them,” he stated.

Kofi Okyere Darko further explained that Ghana has always promoted itself as a welcoming gateway to Africa, adding that the country must remain true to that identity even during difficult moments.

He noted that South Africans who reside in Ghana are equally part of the African family and deserve to feel at home.

“Ghana has always been the pathway into Africa, and we truly believe in that vision.

As long as South Africans living here obey the laws of the country, Ghana remains their home too,” he said.

The presidential adviser also dismissed calls for protests or demonstrations aimed at forcing South Africans out of Ghana.

“There will be no demonstration to drive South Africans away from Ghana. That is not going to happen,” he emphasized.

He added that if Ghana continues to encourage Africans in the diaspora to reconnect and settle in the country, then fellow Africans from South Africa should equally be welcomed.

His comments have since received praise from many people who believe Ghana’s response reflects unity, maturity, and the spirit of pan-Africanism amid rising tensions between the two countries.
