The final group of Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa has safely arrived at the Kotoka International Airport, marking the successful completion of the government’s evacuation exercise following reported xenophobia-related incidents.
The latest flight carried approximately 342 Ghanaians, who were seen celebrating and expressing relief upon touching down in Accra. Videos from the airport captured emotional scenes as returnees sang, cheered and thanked God for a safe journey home.
The group formed part of the second batch of evacuees and arrived on the second flight organised to bring affected Ghanaian nationals back to the country amid growing concerns over their safety in South Africa.
The evacuation exercise was launched by the Government of Ghana in response to reports of xenophobic tensions and threats targeting some foreign nationals. Through the coordinated efforts of state institutions, hundreds of Ghanaians who wished to return home were transported back in multiple phases.
