Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency, Haruna Iddrisu, has paid a glowing tribute to the late media icon, Dr. Mahama Sayibu, describing him as a trailblazer whose immense contribution to journalism and the development of the media landscape in Northern Ghana will never be forgotten.
In an emotional tribute, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu praised the late Dr. Sayibu for his courage, dedication and unwavering commitment to the media profession, particularly in the Northern Region.
According to him, Dr. Mahama Sayibu fought tirelessly to secure a pride of place for journalists and media practitioners while giving a voice to many marginalized people in society.
“Mbeli, Ntizo, you were a true trailblazer in Ghana’s media landscape. Through courage, dedication and unwavering commitment, you fought tirelessly to secure a pride of place for the media profession in Northern Region and gave voice to many who would otherwise have remained unheard,” he stated.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu further acknowledged the late broadcaster’s selfless service to Dagbon and Ghana’s media fraternity, noting that his legacy would remain deeply etched in the hearts of many.
He also recalled Dr. Sayibu’s resilience and steadfastness during some of Dagbon’s most challenging periods.
“Your selfless service to Dagbon and the media fraternity in Ghana will forever remain etched in our hearts. You stood firm with wit and will in Dagbon’s most trying times,” the former Minority Leader added.
He concluded his tribute with a heartfelt farewell, saying: “Rest in Peace, Mbeli Mbeli Mbeli, Chi-Chi Chi-Chi, shei kgun Naawuni.”
The passing of Dr. Mahama Sayibu has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from media practitioners, political figures and residents across Northern Ghana, many describing him as a pillar in the growth and advancement of broadcasting in the region.
