A young man identified as Vincent Apetor has admitted spending Ghc114,000 his girlfriend had saved for their planned Holland visa application, leading an Accra Circuit Court to remand him into custody.
Apetor told investigators that he used most of the money for football betting and lost the funds.
The court heard that his former partner deposited the money into his account between September 2024 and February 2025 after the couple was advised to increase their bank balance for their visa application.
Without her knowledge, Apetor allegedly withdrew the funds using a debit card linked to the account and later hid the chequebook to make it appear the money was still available.
The visa application was unsuccessful, and the matter came to light when the woman requested the return of her money.
Police recovered Ghc35,000, leaving Ghc79,000 outstanding. Apetor is expected to be sentenced on July 8, 2026.Man Remanded
