The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has begun registering traders and other persons affected by the fire that gutted the Odawna Rubber Market in Accra.
The exercise is aimed at determining the total number of victims and compiling a verified database to guide possible relief and support interventions for those impacted by the incident.
Officials in charge of the process say the information gathered will be cross-checked with records from the traders’ association to ensure that only genuine victims are captured in the final list.
They noted that the registration has recorded some challenges, including attempts by some individuals to register more than once, leading to the introduction of additional verification measures.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 137 affected persons had successfully completed the registration exercise.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has cautioned traders against returning to the market to resume trading on Wednesday.
According to the service, the site remains an active investigation scene as efforts continue to determine the cause of the fire.
Authorities have urged all affected traders to cooperate fully with the registration process and comply with safety directives while investigations continue.
