Okaikwei North MP Theresa Lardi Awuni has publicly criticised CalBank, accusing the financial institution of failing to play its part in the nationwide sanitation exercise declared by President John Dramani Mahama.

While inspecting clean-up activities in her constituency, the MP expressed disappointment after allegedly finding that a CalBank branch had not cleaned the area in front of its premises despite the nationwide campaign.

Awuni argued that organisations operating within communities have a civic responsibility to keep their immediate surroundings clean, especially during a national exercise aimed at tackling poor sanitation and flooding.

“The least you can do is clean your frontage. Banks are not an exception. I have left Parliament to clean your gutters for you to get paid?” she remarked.

The MP, who joined residents in desilting gutters and clearing refuse, questioned why elected officials and community volunteers should shoulder the responsibility while some businesses remained inactive.
