Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has proposed a policy that would require individuals to verify their age using a Ghana Card or driver’s licence before accessing pornographic websites.

The proposal forms part of broader efforts to strengthen online child protection measures and limit minors’ exposure to harmful digital content.

Speaking at the 4th Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Values and Sovereignty, the Minister stressed the need for stronger safeguards to address the growing influence of inappropriate material on young people in the digital age.

According to Sam George, age-verification systems could help ensure that access to adult content is restricted to individuals who are legally permitted to view such material, while providing an additional layer of protection for children and teenagers online.
