Ghana High Commission in South Africa has commenced the screening process for a second batch of Ghanaian nationals set to be evacuated from South Africa back to Ghana.
The exercise follows growing xenophobic tensions and increasing calls by some groups in South Africa for undocumented foreign nationals to leave the country.
According to reports, the screening process is intended to verify the identities and documentation status of affected Ghanaians before arrangements are made for their voluntary repatriation.
The latest development comes after the first batch of evacuees already departed South Africa under a government-supported repatriation programme.
Ghanaian authorities have indicated that returnees will receive various forms of assistance upon arrival home, including transportation and reintegration support.
The situation has continued to generate widespread concern across social media and diplomatic circles as debates over immigration, documentation and xenophobia intensify in South Africa.
