The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has revealed that legal representatives of detained Member of Parliament Ohene Kwame Frimpong have formally filed a bail application at a court in the Netherlands.

The MP is currently being held in custody in Amsterdam pending further proceedings before Dutch judicial authorities following his arrest.

Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, Mr Dafeamekpor said both Parliament and government have been actively engaged in providing support to the legislator since news of his detention emerged.

According to him, the bail application was submitted on Tuesday, with lawyers pushing for an expedited hearing within the course of the week.

“So, the lawyers have successfully filed for his bail today. And so we are praying that they will be given a hearing sometime within the week,” he said.

He further indicated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the Netherlands have been working closely to ensure the MP receives appropriate consular and legal assistance.

“The government has also supported. The Foreign Minister has been able to coordinate the work of our ambassador to The Hague to support and offer him every assistance,” he stated.

Mr Dafeamekpor added that leadership of Parliament has maintained continuous contact with the MP’s family and legal team while closely monitoring developments in the case.

He also appealed to the public to remain calm as legal processes unfold, expressing optimism that the MP’s bail request would succeed.

“We think that he will prevail with the bail application,” he added.

The Majority Chief Whip further noted that even if bail is granted, investigations are expected to continue, stressing that temporary release would not impede legal processes.

“He should have his interim freedom to be able to do his work. He will not evaporate and go anywhere,” he stated.
